Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, welcomed Romanian President Klaus Iohannis on Tuesday to discuss ways to expand trade and other ties between the two nations. The leaders addressed how the countries could work together on issues such as renewable energy, sustainability, and food security, as well as wider political and economic concerns impacting the region and beyond. The Sheikh praised the global contributions of the Emirates and the need for the countries to enhance communication in all sectors.
The meeting was attended by several senior ministers and public figures. These included Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance; Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline; Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Co-operation; Mariam Al Mheiri, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment; and Mohammed Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs.
President Iohannis and his wife Carmen were welcomed on Monday with a guard of honour and a 21-gun salute at Qasr Al Watan in the UAE capital. In addition to the potential for increased economic cooperation, the leaders spoke about enhancing coordination regionally and internationally to address key challenges. They highlighted the need to foster greater communication and cooperation between the two nations to achieve mutual objectives.
The discussions took place during President Iohannis’ visit to the region. The Romanians expressed gratitude for the warm reception they received and discussed the possibilities that now exist for closer relations with the UAE. Sheikh Mohammed’s leadership has been influential in building Dubai into a thriving modern metropolis and business hub. He expressed confidence that increased ties between the UAE and Romania could bring new opportunities, for the benefit of both nations.
